The Mustang Club of Indianapolis was founded in 1978 under the name of “Indy Mustangs” with the purpose of encouraging the preservation, and the enjoyment of the Ford Mustang manufactured from 1964 to 1973.​

​The club was reorganized in 1981, adopting the current name, The Mustang Club of Indianapolis, Inc. The club now recognizes all Mustangs, including current models.

In 1987, The Mustang Club of Indianapolis, Inc. became a regional member of the Mustang Club of America. The association with the Mustang Club of America allows The Mustang Club of Indianapolis, Inc. to provide more opportunities, events and information to its members.

The Mustang Club of Indianapolis, Inc. annually hosts a major show and swap meet, and it continues to grow not only in its membership, but in the scope of its activities.​
